A number of ulama and artists of
calligraphy in South Sumatera had done a new history in the world of calligraphy. During eight years, they had
made the 30 juz of
Al-Quran in 315 pieces
of tamarind wood. Not less than 2 billion rupias was
spent to make it happen.
H Sofwatillah Mohzaib S.Sos
is the originator of the idea and the desaigner of the holy Al-Quran. According
to him, this holy Al-Quran is made of tamarind wood. T he overall thickness
including the cover of up to 9 meters. The size of the page is 177 x 140 x 2.5
cm.
On January 30, 2012
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono with the parliamentary conference delegates Organization
of Islam Conference (OIC) declarated this holy Al-Quran.
Al-Quran that consists of 630 pages is also completed by tajwid and do’a khataman for the beginner.
According to Sofwatillah Mohzaib, Al-Quran Al-Akbar is funded by donor
contributions costed 900 million rupias, the remainder of more than 1 billion
rupias is a private fund of some ulama in South Sumatra.
